6th Grade Summer Transition

The summer is a great time for youth ministry. We want to strive to make our 6th graders feel included in the youth ministry when the fall semester begins. After much thought, prayer, and planning about how to proceed with 6th graders, I feel that it is best to have a summer of events and ministry opportunities for the 6th graders that balances out the transition from the children’s ministry to youth ministry.

Rise Up will allow 6th grade students the opportunity to experience what it is like to be apart of the youth ministry, while maintaining the consistency of their Sunday School Class and other committed Children’s Ministry events.

The hope is to allow the “older” youth ministry students to get to know the 6th graders, so that once the fall begins, the ministry would be a cohesive group. The intention is not to prevent 6th graders from moving up, but rather, prevent the potential overwhelming of 6th graders who may not be fully ready to move into the youth ministry. This will be handled delicately and intentionally.

Another reason we are doing it this way is so that 6th grade students will crave to be a part of the youth ministry when the fall begins. We want the 6th graders to be included in this youth program. The summer transition period is there so that they can experience the ministry and then when we transition into the fall, they become fully integrated.

Events

May 23--Students are welcome to begin singing in the Student Choir led by Bro. Stan.  This is one of the most important ministry things we do as a student ministry.  We encourage active participation from those who have been in Children’s Choir, but also, those who are not.  It is cool to be in the choir!

May 28—End of School Bash at Ricky and Teresa Smith’s House!  6th graders invited!

June 7-11—6th Grade VBS led by Bro. Brandon with help from several students!  Friday 6th graders will be “locked out” from Upper Room so that they anticipate entering back in the fall.

June 22— Hang Out with The Upper Room Youth.  On Tuesdays we hang out/spend time with each other doing a fun activity.  Jackson, MS trip to Northlake Mall and Mississippi Braves Baseball Game.  Leave at 12 noon…be back late.  Cost TBA.

July 13—Hang Out with The Upper Room Youth.  On Tuesdays we hang out/spend time with each other doing a fun activity.  This will be no different.  Plan to come and do something fun (there may be a cost, and it will be up to students to pay for it.  I will let you know more details as day comes).

July 19-23—Camp at Centri-Kid!  It’s going to be the most amazing ever.  Virginia Koonce will lead the trip.  Candi and I are both participating in the week!

August 7—Rise Up Day!  This will be an extravaganza of fun, food, fellowship, and discussing what it means to be a part of the youth ministry!  Your kids will not know that this event is happening.

August 8—6th Grade Promotion to Junior High Sunday School Classes!
