6th Grade Summer Transition

The summer is a great time for youth ministry. We want to strive to make our 6th graders feel included in the youth ministry when the fall semester begins. After much thought, prayer, and planning about how to proceed with 6th graders, I feel that it is best to have a summer of events and ministry opportunities for the 6th graders that balances out the transition from the children’s ministry to youth ministry.

Rise Up will allow 6th grade students the opportunity to experience what it is like to be apart of the youth ministry, while maintaining the consistency of their Sunday School Class and other committed Children’s Ministry events.

The hope is to allow the “older” youth ministry students to get to know the 6th graders, so that once the fall begins, the ministry would be a cohesive group. The intention is not to prevent 6th graders from moving up, but rather, prevent the potential overwhelming of 6th graders who may not be fully ready to move into the youth ministry. This will be handled delicately and intentionally.

Another reason we are doing it this way is so that 6th grade students will crave to be a part of the youth ministry when the fall begins. We want the 6th graders to be included in this youth program. The summer transition period is there so that they can experience the ministry and then when we transition into the fall, they become fully integrated.

Events

May 31--Students are welcome to begin singing in the Student Choir led by Bro. Stan. This is one of the most important things we do as a student ministry. We encourage active participation from those who have been in Children’s Choir, but also, those who are not. It is cool to be in the choir!

June 17—Swimming Party at Keith and Donna Scallan’s for all Students including 6th Graders!

June 29-30—Six Flags/Texas Rangers Trip—Come and enjoy the fun as Bro. Stan leads us to Dallas for a fun trip!

July 11—Ministry Mania. Serve the local community and see lives changed through your work!

July 20-23—Camp at Camp Harris! It’s going to be the most amazing ever. Virginia Koonce will lead the trip. Candi and I are both participating in the week!
