Matt Barnes Gave His Life in Iraq
Matt Barnes
Gave His Life Serving His Country
In late August, 2005, Lance Corporal Matthew Ryan Barnes, USMC was deployed to Iraq. He was an electronics specialist in 3rd Battalion 6th Marine Regiment. Although his specialty was electronics, he was also a machine gunner in his colonel's personal security detail. On Tuesday, February 14, 2006, he was killed when the humvee in which he was riding was attacked by a car driven by a suicide bomber.
Matt was a committed believer in Jesus Christ and a member of Highland Baptist Church. He loved his Lord and he was loved by many people. Though we know that he is with his Savior now, he will be greatly missed.
Family members who are also members of Highland include his parents, Mr. & Mrs. Rick Barnes, paternal grandparents, Mr. & Mrs. Ray Doolittle, and his brother and sister. Continued prayers on their behalf along with the rest of their family are sincerely appreciated.
